Hunger Fighters Food Drive Returns To Kansas State FairAugust 19, 2016
MAZOMANIE, Wis. (August 19, 2016) – The Kansas State Fair, Mid America Ag Network, Kansas FFA and Wick Buildings are again teaming up to help fight hunger in Kansas through a food drive during the Kansas State Fair, which takes place September 9 to 18, 2016. Over 215,000 Kansans rely on local food banks and assistance programs to help feed them. Non-perishable food and money donations can be made in the joint Wick/FFA Building on Bison Boulevard near entrance E-5 at the Fair.
“Our main goal is to raise money and non-perishable food donations to provide the equivalent of over 30,000 meals to Reno County Food Bank, the local food bank in the area of the Kansas State Fair,” described Jeff Farquhar, Wick Buildings’ President. “We also hope that this joint effort will raise awareness and donations to help fight hunger year-round throughout Kansas.”
According to Penny Haney, director of Reno County Food Bank, an average of 25 families are served each day. So far this year the food bank has served over 9,400 people with one-third being children. Each month about 30 families who have fallen on hard times visit the food bank for the first time.
