State-of-the-Art Beef Production Facility Opens
A new State-of-the-Art Beef Production Facility recently opened in Andover, Iowa by Johnson Valley Beef. Incorporating best practices in design, environmental impact and animal comfort and a new state-of-the-art beef production facility.
The facility was designed for both better beef cattle production economics and positive environmental impact through total animal confinement.
"When our local builder in the area, Ross River of River Service Company, came to us with this project we were thrilled to be part of the team," said Tom Wick, President and General Manager for Wick Buildings, LLC. "This design really incorporates the best of the best when it comes to ventilation, protection from the elements and minimizing labor for cleaning and feeding."
Owners Jason Johnson and Sherril Johnson have operated a custom feeding operation at their farm since 2005. This addition to their existing feeding operations adds 720 head of cattle space in a pit confinement facility. They decided to build a pit with slat design due to the improved feed conversion, animal gains and fertilizer value they have experienced in their older pit confinement building in comparison to bedded barns with lots, of which they have both types.

Wick Buildings and The Future Farmers of America opened a new joint use building to the general public at the Kansas State Fairgrounds. The facility features a 36 x 70 working agriculture building for the FFA that includes animal housing and informational display space. The building also features a 24 x 32 commercial space for Wick Buildings sales efforts at the Kansas State Fair.
"This beautiful new building showcases the strong presence that Wick Buildings has in the agribusiness world" said Larry Edema, Assistant National Sales Manager for Wick Buildings. "Agriculture, in its many forms, is by far the most important segment of our business." The joint building was the culmination of a year of work on the partnership by Denny Stoecklein, Kansas State Fair General Manager and Shawn Baer, Wick Buildings District Sales Manager.
"This building will provide a wonderful facility for displays, information, education and demonstrations", said Kansas FFA State President Emily Beneda. "We are pleased with the partnership and this working building that has resulted from it".
