Four Wick Builders Receive 2010 Building Awards at NFBA

One church and three equine facilities constructed by Wick builders were honored at this year's National Frame Builders Association Awards in February at the NFBA Expo in Louisville, Kentucky.

One church and three equine facilities constructed by Wick builders were honored at this year's National Frame Builders Association Awards in February at the NFBA Expo in Louisville, Kentucky.

 

The following two projects earned top honors with Building of the Year Awards in their respective categories:

 

Steve Hearn, Hearn Construction, Inc., located in Kokomo, Indiana. In the category of Institutional for First Church of God, this inspirational 21,000 square foot facility featured...

  • A main sanctuary structure of 85 x 120 x 19 (10,200 square feet) with 6:12 roof pitch and basketball court.
  • An amazing 11 wings that included several types of classrooms, a kitchen and a foyer accessed by a covered carport.
  • Parapet walls above the foyer to hide heating and air units.
  • Exterior finishes including standing seem roof, EIFS panels, vinyl, brick and stone. 

Frank "Pancho" Windler, Windler Building Solutions, located in Pacific, Missouri. In the category of Horse Barns/Facilities Under 3000 Square Feet, this attractive building featured...

  • 36 x 36 x 11 structure with 8:12 roof pitch and 10 x 36 lean.
  • Horizontal cedar siding and a decorative flying gable.
  • Hay loft, custom bale door, custom built cupola and a functional dormer.
  • Tongue and groove wood lined interior, Classic 4200 Series stalls and 12 x 36 center aisle with pavers.
  • Two 12 x 10 split side doors and three Dutch doors.

Earning third place honors in their respective categories were:

 

Mike Moore, MRM Services, located in Johnstown, Ohio. In the category of Horse Barns/Facilities over 10,000 Square Feet, this luxurious 10,080 square foot equestrian facility featured...

  • 42 x 132 x 16 stall barn with 10 x 132 and 10 x 60 leans, and a 70 x200 x 16 indoor arena.
  • Stall barn finished on the interior with tongue and groove, RLC trusses with lined ceiling and Classic 3500 Series stalls.
  • Exterior finishing includes split slide doors with glass, ½ round end windows and Dutch doors.
  • "People spaces" include lower level lounge, restrooms and kitchenette along with upper level 1,200 square foot office, lounge, kitchen and laundry.

Dale Junk, Tri-State Building Corp., located in Bellevue, Iowa. In the category of Horse Barns/Facilities from 3,000 to 10,000 Square Feet, this remarkable structure might look like a horse facility, but it is very well-designed to accommodate toys, people and horses! Features include:

  • A main structure of 66 x 90 x 13 with almost 1,400 square feet of 2-story living space, a large storage area, tack room and horse stall area.
  • Amenities include sliding doors with glass, knotty pine interior porch, RLC trusses to accommodate overhead door, and a beautiful view the of the Mississippi River from the upstairs living area.

Kelly Schudi of Anoka, MN won the 30x30x11 American Classic Wick Building.  Her name was drawn from over 10,000 entries at the World Dairy Expo by the show's manager John Rozum.
